5 Days Animation Challenge – Day 0

How To Create Your Own Anime Action Scene in 5 Days

You wonder How To Create Your Own Anime Action Scene but don’t know where to start?

You are right on time and at the right place! I’ve just decided to go through a personal challenge to put together an animated anime action scene as I love to watch and want to make.

The goal is to make it in less than a week! So this is the right opportunity for you to follow along and make yours as well.

This journey will guide you through a 5-day animation challenge to create a rough but complete animation.

You’ll learn the basic steps on the go and have fun doing it!

Why Take This Challenge?

It’s easy to get stuck trying to make something perfect. But as we all know, in this world perfection does not exist. Plus, I believe anything aiming for perfection is doomed to fail.

As Mayuri Kurotsuchi explained it best: “If something is perfect, then there is nothing left. There is no room for imagination. No place left for a person to gain additional knowledge or abilities.”

In that regard, I agree with Tite Kubo. To me, the beauty of our existence is that we are meant to go through constant evolution and perfection is exactly the opposite state of that.

Discovering and learning new things, honing your current skills, combining knowledge to get new and stronger ones, gaining experience through the trenches of training and any kind of battlefield is very exciting!

This is the seasoning of life!

That’s why I believe having flaws and recognizing them in order to improve is one of the best blessed situations that you can be in!

In short, this challenge on How To Create Your Own Anime Action Scene in 5 Days is all about finishing a project, even if it’s not flawless.

Done is better than perfect!

Jake Parker said it better than me, and his motto is the main inspiration 🔥

Throughout this challenge, you will learn by doing, improve your skills in drawing, animation, and storyboarding. Plus, it’s a great way to enjoy the creative process!

What You’ll Learn

  • How to create a draft animation
  • How to storyboard
  • How to enjoy the animation process
  • and ultimately, How To Create Your Own Anime Action Scene in 5 Days

The 5-Day Challenge: Step-by-Step

5 Days Animation Challenge – Day 0

This challenge is designed to be straightforward.

You will create an animation from start to finish in just five days. Or let’s say, technically, in less than a week 😉

Here’s how:

Day 1: Draft Your Idea

Start with a simple drawing or sketch. This will help you make your idea clear. Put your idea onto paper or any tangible support that is available to you. Don’t worry about making it perfect.

The goal here is to have a visual to work from.

Also, I’d suggest to draft your 3 main actions “events” that you have in mind when you think about your action scene. Generally, the 1st image you think of and the 2 main pivot moments of the whole script. And if you want to write your script down, you are more than welcome to do so now.

You do not need to though. Do what vibes best with you. Time is running!

Day 2: Create a Storyboard

Day 0 : making folders within SketchBook app to stay organized while sketching out the storyboard for the animation on Android Tablet

A storyboard is a series of drawings that show the main actions of your story. You don’t need to be a storyboard master. Just focus on making your story clear. A few cases with the main action are all you need to get started. 9 to 12 cases (or “frames”) should be enough. More if you get carried away with your passion lol but keep the focus on the timeline and being efficient with it.

  • Keep it simple: Focus on the key actions.
  • Be visual: Use drawings to tell your story.

Day 3-5: Animate Your Action Scene

Animate your drawings by using the storyboard you created in the previous step. Don’t overthink corrections.

To help: before animating, chronologically note a number down on each case, in order for you to name each shot/scene clearly and be organized even though we are rushing.

Remember, this is a straightforward process. Avoid spending too much time fixing mistakes.

Focus on completing the animation.

My Magic: Exaggeration!

My personal style involves exaggerating everything. This gives my animations a unique touch and makes them more exciting. This makes Exaggeration my favorite one of the 12 principles of animation!

“What’s Your Magic?” Podcast

This challenge is also an introduction to my podcast called: “What’s Your Magic?“.

The podcast will explore the unique talents and perspectives that people bring to and through their creations. Everyone has something special that only they can offer.

That’s what I call “Magic”

You can see it as a Quirk [個こ性せい Kosei] in My Hero Academia where almost everyone has a Meta Ability, a unique super power that makes their presence authentic.

And you, What is your magic?

What makes your creations unique?

Share Your Progress

I will do my best to post at least one or two updates per week that translates to about two hours of work for that session.

The challenge does not require doing it all day after day. 1 session of one or 2 hours might be good enough to call it a day.

Do what works best with your schedule. In total, 5 Days will be the total amount of work to complete the project.

Also, delaying too much will trap you into procrastination which is what we tend to avoid here.

Make it simple. Make it easy for you. Make it work!

Just set your schedule as dynamic enough to keep going within a small timeframe that will lead to completion.

A Straightforward Path to Animation

This 5-day animation challenge is all about learning by doing. It’s about going from A to Z without getting bogged down in perfectionism. By following these steps, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to create your own animations.

And who knows, you might want to do it again just for fun sake!

  1. J’adore cette approche, en seulement 5 jours, on apprend à créer une scène d’action anime en se concentrant sur le processus plutôt que sur la perfection, vraiment inspirant et motivant ! 🙂
