• Who is Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru?

Born in 1962, on May 22, in Oita, Japan.
Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru 中鶴 勝祥 is a humble but very skillful Legendary Japanese Animator and Character Designer.
He has got more than forty years of animation work experience! and he is still deep in multiple animation projects to this day!!

Without even noticing, I grew up with his work on my face almost every single day of my childhood.
It was just a few years [five] ago that I came across his name while studying animation.

More precisely, DragonBall and Dragon Ball Z animation!

I started watching Dragon Ball as a toddler, which is way before I came across the manga, so I realized that I actually saw his work even before seeing Akira Toriyama’s. When you are a kid, generally you don’t know or even care where these shows come from and who does this or that.

Personally, I felt that it is impressive to learn how Japanese animation is made from the manga to the anime, and how many people are involved in this undertaking.

More bunch of huge respect grew out from that.

And to get back to our main character here, Nakatsuru Sensei was later on heavily involved in the character design development for the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT series and films.
And was also a key-animator for the 1997 remake of Dr. Slump.

And that’s basically my main inspiration that led me to drawings character and wanting to be an animator!! 🔥

Soon enough, we’ll see more about his work!

Cheers!
