MOMENTUM JOURNAL GENESiS: 1st Take
• M0MENTUM PR0JECT • JOURNALiNG: DAY 00
Journaling the journey while going through it.
OK.
At the time of journaling this, we are the 16th of September 2024 and it is 12h03 p.m.
It’s during the day. It’s after 11 a.m. LOL
What is MOMENTUM ?
Actually, this is a personal project.
I started it with my buddy during this summer 2024
And to be honest it came out from almost nowhere.
During a random conversation about our art skills, he suddenly said “hey what can we do in 24 hours?”
and I was like ..uuuuhh.. at first, I was intrigued..
We discussed a bit about and then finally said:
“OK! This is the challenge. Let’s call it ‘the 24 hours challenge‘.
6 characters. Fantasy world.
Tell a story with that!”
That’s it.
That’s how it started.
The very reason why we had THAT discussion,
it is because it’s been a long time I haven’t been putting artworks out there
and I haven’t been producing that much.
But honestly, still wanted to.
I still had ideas and all but you know, as the saying goes: “life happens”.
This is why we wanted to break that unproductive pattern with a sort of powerful push.
So we agreed to do something within 24 hours.
All that, without disrupting the current lifestyle we had in order to force ourselves to avoid that excuse of “yeah, you know, life happens”
Of course, very high level urgencies alias important/personal stuffs are the exceptions. We are humans.
24H challenge in our respective styles
Basically, we decided to do the 24hours challenge.
The goal was to create Arts without disrupting the current lifestyle so that we can set in Stone an efficient method which allows one to create arts regardless the life happening.
And we did it.
We created our stuffs in our respective styles, in the type of art we like to do.
My friend is doing something very different than mine.
And I’m doing something very different than his.
As the main theme of this website goes, it is obvious that I am deeply involved in Animation. Mangas. Comics.
At least, that is what I want to be. Because these are really the kind of stuffs I like.
And I did it: 6 characters in a Fantasy world.
I told the story within the 24 hours restrictions.
So after that was done, we made each other each other’s reviews on each other’s work.
And again, after discussion, we decided to turn it into a one week challenge.
Why?
Because we felt that we did not have enough time to put more details or to hone some particular things enough as we liked and wanted.
It was during the Summers
Keep in mind that are not students anymore which means the necessary free time to focus on it is hugely reduced.
Plus, this was going during the summers, so let’s in some ways, it was hard.
But yeah, we did it!
Then one week later, again, we reviewed each other’s advancements and updates on the original work and all.
And then again, after, -this time- a longer discussion and a more in-depth discussion, we decided to turn this into a 3month project!
But this time, we decided to take it more seriously. And it implies to go in details and learn a totally new set of skills during the process of making it.
The main rule is still to do it within the current lifestyle we are living.
And without adjusting or fixing it neither.
Make something. Craft something.
So, in the timespan of 3 month, we agreed upon making something.
A solid craft that we can be enough proud of it to say:
• “OK, we produced a tangible ‘artcraft‘ in 3 months.”
• “We came from nothing and made something.”
You can clearly say that we were moved by the motto:
‘to make something out of nothing.’
or more precisely
‘to craft something out of nothing.’
Actually, this is the trope we kept on going about during that discussion.
So since then, we’ve been “crafting our craft”.. LOL
So yeah, this is the MOMENTUM Project.
This is how it came out and recently, we decided to simply share the process in order to hold ourselves accountable.
To be honest it also helps a lot to keep each other updated on the work’s current advancement.
We also set a day of the week for a call focused on reviews and possible fixes to apply for each level.
Though, we seriously agreed to share.
Why?
Because it might help people to see how can someone “artcraft” something from nothing
within 3 months.
We thought it was reasonable to do that.
Also, it might help people who want to learn new things since we know we will learn new things throughout the web.
May others benefit of this too and maybe find shortcuts to their processes too.
Workflows & tools
I already have a background as a 3D modeler / 3D character artist / animator.. etc
But since my main laptop is a bit old and went off..
I recently got myself a new Android tablet.
So I get to know some new apps.
Which means, I will also update my workflow with my old workflow.
Compare new programs with older ones.
It will an great opportunity to add some fresh air to that solid way of working.
We will get to see which one is still relevant and which one I should get rid of..
This will be a major update because nowadays, I tend to sketch more and more on my tablet and my physical Sketchbook than what I used to do on my PC or laptop.
And sharing that, will be a great opportunity to see that Evolution or simply to share and establish my own Style.
My personal goal: GROWTH
My personal goal through all this is to set in stone my own visual signature and be able to say:
“OK. Now, I have THAT as my style signature for animation.
I have THiS as my style signature for illustration.
and I THAT one, will only be for Comics & Mangas, if I want to.”
It will be fun to share that process.
My style might resonate with you OR NOT.
Do not be confused! Pleasing is not the goal here.
The goal is to figure out the process named: “How can someone can go from zero to something.”
And owning the motto: “From nothing to something.”
..something solid enough to be considered and personally validated “Craft DONE.”
Throughout YouTube or other social media platforms, we can see people presenting their final project to the world like:
“Hey, this is the project I’ve been working on.”
And Bam! everyone is like: “Wow! This wonderful, blah Blah blah”
That’s cool and all but we don’t get to see through each steps this person went through, the difficulties this person met on the way.
So here, with that journaling I will do my best to share the most I can about this personal project named MOMENTUM
So you can witness the difficulties I will be going through as well as how I will manage to overcome them and/or what kind of solutions or fix/es I will deem efficient for it.
I believe it will be interesting as long as I do it consistently. And if I don’t meet any difficulties then that’s great too lol
But that’s not likely to happen.
M0MENTUM PR0JECT: We are all humans
Jokes aside. That’s not likely. We are all humans, so we make mistakes.
We learn. The beauty of being a human it’s that we learn. And what we learn makes us grow into a better person.
..and in this case, grow into a better artist. Or let’s say, “digital artist”.
Have you ever noticed?
Whatever you do at work, as long as you learn, you’ll be a better worker.
So, we can say that this part of the project is more about journaling how and what I learn to improve myself as a person in general.
Part of it will be me doing a lot of analog sketches on my physical Sketchbook because I like it.
And I hope you will enjoy it as well.
The goal is to improve.
I believe this is it for now.
I still don’t know the correct way to do this journaling thing but I will only journaling for this project.
And I might do it randomly. Though, I will try to make it as clear as possible, as I can.
Get along. Follow along and bear with me.
We’ll meet again, maybe with better visual. Who knows..
The goal is to improve.
Let’s improve ourselves!
